Virginia Theological Seminary is honored to have a new award that recognizes a member of the graduating class who has exhibited a strong commitment to the community life and mission of the Seminary.
The Greene Chair, the gift of a seminary chair, was made possible through the deep conviction and gratitude to the Seminary of the Rev. Janettarose L. Greene ’23, who herself made a significant contribution to community life at VTS while she was a residential student.

Greene’s commitment to the VTS community, which included serving as Student Body President, was recognized through her being awarded The Ford Chair. It was this award, which has now been sunsetted, that inspired Greene to create The Greene Chair.
Her gift not only provides for a member of the graduating class to receive a seminary chair, but any funds available annually that are in excess of these costs will be used to support programing that benefits community life or the overall mission of the Seminary.
Speaking at a special Deanery dinner to thank Greene for her generosity, she explained that The Greene Chair was her way of thanking VTS for the impact it had had on her life.
“I view this Holy Hill as my place of becoming . . . me becoming more than I ever thought possible. Becoming more like what I believe God intended me to be,” she said.
“To you, campus leaders – past and present . . . I pray that you soon realize that this too is your place of becoming – and as soon as you are able or as the spirit moves you . . . I pray that you too will pour back into this fabled institution with its hallowed halls, and storied professors, a portion of what has been fashioned into you.
“As Matthew (6:21) tells us . . . ‘Where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.’ I have lived just long enough to understand what this really means, and with this gift I am answering the tug on my heart.”
The first Greene Chair was awarded to graduating student the Rev. Jared Moore ’24. Moore said: “I could not have been more surprised (and emotional) to have received this honor. I’m so grateful to the Rev. Janettarose Greene for her generous endowment towards the student life and mission of VTS.”
VTS also surprised Maria Ann DiPasquantonio, Greene’s wife, by presenting her with a replica Greene Chair for the role she played in the seminary community while both were at VTS.
