Virginia Theological Seminary marked its Historic Bicentenary in October last year with a series of worship services, lectures, and activities.
The four-day program of events included a symposium to mark the 20th Anniversary of the African American Episcopal Historical Collection, a joint project between VTS’ Bishop Payne Library and the Historical Society of the Episcopal Church; a keynote address by the Rt. Rev. Renta Nishihara, Ph.D., Bishop of the Diocese of Chubu, and President of Rikkyo University, which grew out of a private school founded by VTS alum the Rt. Rev. Channing Moore Williams; and a forum with renowned artist Leo Franklin Twiggs, Ph.D.
There was also a livestream conversation with the Most Rev. Dr. Hosam E. Naoum ’11, ’20, (H) ’22, Anglican Archbishop in Jerusalem, Primate and President Bishop, The Province of Jerusalem & the Middle East, from Jerusalem.
In addition, the Seminary hosted a series of activities for children, and a “Paws to Pray” pet-friendly service. Events concluded with a Festive Eucharist and brunch.
Mitzi Budde, D.Min, Head Librarian and the Arthur Carl Lichtenberger Chair for Theological Research, retires after 33 years. The Rev. A. Katherine Grieb, Ph.D., ’83, reflects on the profound impact she has had on VTS.
